"Making Social Media Work for You"
  • Be prepared to have regular and convenient practice hours. The majority of your clients will be working during normal business hours.  Have night hours a couple times a week and even a weekend day available to schedule clients.  Some clients appreciate early hours before work.  Accommodate the needs of your clients.
  • If you are in your office and don't have a client, use the time to keep up with your paperwork, make contact phone calls or practice presentations you will do in the future.
  • Attempt to have two contacts per week with other health care providers or service organizations.
  • Be available by cell phone or pager and return all calls within the hour.
  • Urgent or emergency visits may be necessary.  Keep time available for these situations.
  • Establish a reasonable fee schedule that describes what you charge for each service.
  • Get into the habit of scheduling your client for there next appointment before they leave.
  • Become friendly with local real estate agents.  Have them give your brochures to new people that move into the area.
  • Determine which type of massage modality you enjoy performing the most and become a specialist at it.  Remember, specialist in any field typically make more money.  Compare the cost of a family practice physician to cardiologist.
This month's marketing idea:
Whenever you have a new networking opportunity, let people sign up for your Birthday Club.  Explain that if the person gives you their birthday, name, address, phone number and email, you will send them a coupon for a massage during their birthday month.  When their month comes send them a coupon for a discounted massage.  Because it is their birthday month, people are usually ready to spoil themselves anyway, and a coupon will more than likely be the deciding factor.  The majority of people will have massages with you at other times throughout the year, so everybody wins!!
  • Make time to stretch between clients-This habit will counteract tension and decrease your risks to injury.
  • Listen to your own body-If you have feelings of pain or discomfort, do what it takes to make them stop.  Don't work through the pain.
  • Know your body's limit- Do only as many clients as it is possible for you to do in one day.  Don't schedule days with only clients who insist on deep work.
  • Continuing education is great but....-If you have attended a weekend marathon of hands on clinics, be prepared to take a couple of days to regenerate.
  • Protect your hands-get in the habit of wearing gloves out in the garden or if doing other household chores or carpentry. Limit other hobbies that primarily rely on "full-time" hand work.
  • Exercise-Plan on getting at least 3 days of exercise per week.  This program should include stretches, strengthening and cardiovascular activities.
  • Do answer your phone or at least have an answering service or professional message on answering machine
  • Establish regular business hours
  • Think about your practice
  • Tell people about your practice
  • Continue to educate your current client base with newsletters or brochures
  • Ask for referrals
  • Dress or act in a professional manner
  • Always set up return visits for your clients
  • Spend time daily planning growth and development
  • Network with other healthcare providers and other business owners
  • Further your education with continuing ed
